This double-door bookcase is representative of Gustav Stickley’s aesthetic shift to the structural style of cabinet making, a combination of honest craftsmanship and visible construction. The piece incorporates frame and panel sides and shiplap planking. There are twelve panes of glass held in place by forty eight quarter rounds adorning each door. The flared top of the vertical mitered mullions on each door reflect the shape of the bookcase’s corbels, giving a truncated arch effect to the top row of panes. The inverted corbels and the double legs at each corner of the bottom visually anchor the cabinet to the floor. The bottom front rail has an inverted “V” shape. Inside, there is one adjustable shelf above the fixed center shelf, and another below it.
